10 Wrestlers Who Threw Their Championships Away

6. Justin Credible - ECW World Tag Team Championship

Steve Austin Intercontinental Title
WWE

April 2000 was a weird few weeks for ECW. It was during this time that WWF wrestler Taz had to get the ECW Championship off WCW wrestler Mike Awesome, breaking open the so-called Forbidden Door before AEW made it popular.

Eight days after this match, at the Cyberslam PPV, Tommy Dreamer beat Taz to win the championship, bringing it firmly back under ECWs control. As Dreamer and manager Francine celebrated the feel-good win, out comes Justin Credible to rain on his parade.

Credible arrived in ECW in 1997 following a disastrous run in WWF as the "Portuguese Man O'War" Aldo Montoya. He stated in later interviews that Paul Heyman promised to make him a star and, after working his way through the ranks, capturing the ECW Tag Team Championship as part of the Impact Players with Lance Storm, Heyman positioned Credible as a top heel. On that night at Cyberslam, he relinquished his Tag Team title by throwing it to the floor and went on to beat Dreamer for the top prize.

The now-former Impact Player not only winning the World title, but disrespecting both his partner and the tag championship they held earned him massive heat from the fans. Just as the mastermind intended.
