10 Wrestling Retirement Matches Where The Loser Came Back
5. Randy Savage Vs. The Ultimate Warrior - WrestleMania VII
Randy Savage was once a beloved fan favorite, but when he turned heel and aligned himself with Sensational Sherri, he became WWE's top villain. Rechristened the "Macho King," Savage soon started a feud with WWE Champion The Ultimate Warrior.
The program was born out of Savage's quest for a title shot, but when Warrior refused, Savage interfered in Warrior's defense against Sgt. Slaughter, costing him the belt. That led to a retirement match at WrestleMania VII, a legendary contest that saw Warrior (in the only truly great performance of his career) withstand five elbow drops to come back and win.
When a beaten Savage was attacked by Sherri, former valet Miss Elizabeth came to his rescue, leading to a reconciliation and a happy ending for the couple.
Savage's retirement wouldn't even last the year. After he and Elizabeth were married at SummerSlam 1991, Jake Roberts and The Undertaker began to torment the couple. When Roberts subjected Savage to a bite from a cobra, the "Macho Man" demanded to be reinstated to fight his enemy. He got his wish, and by WrestleMania VIII, he was WWE Champion again.
