10 WWE Moves That Had To Be Renamed
5. Weapon Of Mass Destruction
You can certainly see the logic behind the naming of Big Show’s finishing punch.
He uses his fist as a weapon. His fist has a lot of mass. A weapon with mass can cause plenty of destruction; hence, the Weapon of Mass Destruction.
However, in a time when the US public shows “high levels of concern about the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction”, using that nickname for a pro wrestling move may not be the most sensitive approach.
As such, Big Show’s strike tends to be dubbed the more politically-correct, if rather less creative, KO Punch.
The Giant seems to have pretty bad luck with seeing his moves renamed. Both his inverted leg-drop bulldog and his falling chokeslam have been known to fans as the Showstopper at one time or another. However, the 2002 return of a certain Shawn Michaels soon forced the World’s Largest Athlete to relinquish the Showstopper moniker—and for very good reason too.
