Suffice it to say, unless any unsavoury recordings surface over the next 12 months, Roman Reigns is guaranteed a place on Vince McMahon's payroll heading into 2019.

This is less a case of fighting for his long-term WWE future than it is a chance (and perhaps the very last chance he will get) at finally making real those aspirations of being the company's next franchise player.

If, as expected, Roman heads to WrestleMania 34's main event for a second date with Brock Lesnar, that's the challenge that awaits him. If things go badly again, you have to wonder whether Vince and co, however stubborn and set in their ways we may think them, will keep their faith much longer.

The signs are actually looking promising this time round though. Roman still struggles to command the support of the WWE crowd on his own, but as a member of The Shield his reactions have been among the best on Raw. Provided that he doesn't win next month's Rumble out of nowhere, he could head to New Orleans with a strong groundswell of support - particularly with the uncertainty surrounding Lesnar's future.
