10 WWE Wrestlers Who Survived HORRIBLE Debuts
7. Becky Lynch
There's a long list of stereotypical, moderately-offensive nationality-based gimmicks in wrestling. From Tito Santana as 'El Matador' to Rusev's pro-Russia character (even though he's from Bulgaria), wrestling bookers definitely aren't afraid to take the easy option when it comes to non-American talent.
One country that has suffered this curse more than most is Ireland. Up until very recently, if you were an Irish wrestler in WWE, then you would either wear green, have a tin whistle in your entrance music, or (in the case of Becky), dance your way down to the ring.
Before her 2014 debut match in NXT, Lynch was told to go out and do her best Michael Flatley impression. Her now-infamous Irish jig gimmick made her look like a complete chump and was thankfully dropped shortly thereafter.
The worst part about this whole debacle? She couldn't even dance! Becky looked like she was trying to flick something off the bottom of her shoes rather than pay homage to her culture. As we all know, Lynch is one of the biggest stars in WWE right now, but things could have gone very differently.
