12 Upcoming Wrestling Stories That Are Already Doomed

10. Ava, The General Manager Of NXT

Brock Lesnar John Cena
WWE

Since Triple H took over WWE creative in 2022 following Vince McMahon resigning in disgrace, authority figures have been scaled back to the point where they almost meet the impeccable standard set by best-in-class version Jack Tunney.

For the too young or simply uninitiated, on-screen WWE President Tunney was administration to such a degree that it scarcely suited his persona when he stepped out of the office and into the ring during his tenure on top between 1984-1995. Steadfast more than he was charismatic, Tunney did the paperwork it was easy to believe was required to run a wrestling company, without trying to put his foot on the throats of heels or babyfaces for no particular reason. Only when Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon became so effective in the villainous role did it become an infuriating (and senseless) archetype, and scaling back the profiles of Adam Pearce, Nick Aldis and Ava across Raw, SmackDown and NXT respectively has worked wonders for the credibility of wrestlers and in two cases, the GMs.

For the five years she's spent in the developmental system, Ava's progress as a performer has been minimal at best. Attempts to wrestle have been limited to (as of writing) just six matches, and her verbal displays have been lacking enough that she's been given two assistants to do half of the work in backstage promos. There's always going to be extra time allotted to second generation stars, and in wrestling you never say never, but "doomed" feels generous for whatever outcome she might ultimately arrive at in her increasingly limited spot.
