9. Low Ki In WWE
Low Ki is one of those guys you watch in the ring and applaud. Then, he opens his mouth to cut a promo and your jaw hits the floor that he has that voice. This is 'Chocolate Rain' all over again. Look it up if you don't get the reference to one of YouTube's earliest favourites. "Some stay dry and others feel the pain".
This ex-ROH, TNA and PWG fave was certainly feeling the pain when he was recast as Kaval and put on the original NXT concept show in 2010. Somehow, he won the second season of the show alongside his mentors LayCool. Layla and Michelle McCool acted like Kaval was their little pet dog who was rough around the edges and just needed a makeover.
It was weird to watch.
This was also the most Vince McMahon use of a hot Cruiserweight-style star ever. 'He needs to show some personality, pal'. One could almost hear the old boss bellowing that behind the curtain. 'Who cares about his great matches? Put him in skits! That's where the money is'. Blah blah blah. You get the picture.
As Kaval, Ki threatened to break out as an unlikely success story, but he never looked content with his role next to LayCool, and fans had a tough time caring about him. Maybe people could see through WWE's booking, and they were just waiting for McMahon to pull the plug on the whole thing. Basically, why bother investing when it isn't going to last anyway?
Kaval was cooked by late-2010. He left the company right before Christmas.
