After shockingly returning to not only win the Royal Rumble, but the WWE Championship along with it, Triple H was in need of an opponent at WrestleMania 32. While the clear choice was Roman Reigns, who The Game had unseated as WWE Champion, that did not stop The Big Dog, The Beast Incarnate and The Lunatic Fringe from having an entertaining number one contenders match at Fastlane.

After dominating much of the early portion of the match, Brock was taken out after the former Shield members would team up. Reigns and Ambrose would put The Beast through two announce tables via their patented power bomb and bury him amongst the rubble. The former brothers would then turn their attention to each other, going at it for the first time since the split of the legendary faction. Their fighting would be soon interrupted by Lesnar who would reverse a Spear into a Kimura lock on Reigns, only to be broken up by Dean Ambrose and a steel chair. The Lunatic would attack both men, focusing on taking out Lesnar before turning around into a Spear by Reigns to end the match.

Despite the seemingly obvious result, Reigns, Lesnar and Ambrose were all stars during the match, setting the stage for two of the biggest matches to come at WrestleMania 32.
