4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's NXT (May 13)

1. Zayn vs Owens Is Still On

Somehow, someway, the match is going ahead next week. During the confrontation between the two men, WWE edited in a quite noticeable last-minute audio insert, whereby Sami Zayn acknowledged his shoulder injury and confirmed that the match will still be going ahead at Unstoppable. All of the reports that surfaced a week ago suggested that Zayn's injury was legitimate and not a work, evidenced even more so by the edit-job required to address the issue here. As such, while it would be fantastic news for the fans to have the excellent Zayn/Owens feud reach its peak at Unstoppable, they also have to hope that Zayn and the WWE are being smart by letting the match go forward. After all, you only have to look at Daniel Bryan to see the consequences of allowing wrestlers to work through injuries. There's a real danger of accumulating more damage and that would be a huge blow to Zayn, considering that he's all but ready to be called up to the main roster. Ultimately, announcing that the match is still on is a smart move on WWE's part. Even if Zayn's condition deteriorates before next week, they keep their options open and didn't compromise the excellent promo between Sami and Owens that closed last night's show. If anything, the injury has fit right into the narrative. Owens told Sami that he's 'still hurt' and promised that after Takeover, he 'won't come back'. It's a chilling prophecy, considering that it's a real likelihood that, if the match happens, Sami might re-injure his shoulder at the hands of Owens. But here's hoping against that.
