6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Mar 4)

3. A Fitting Choice

Austin Theory Pat McAfee

The internet (and yours truly) thought for a second that Vince McMahon would lace up some boots and work Pat McAfee at 'Mania. That seemed to be the purpose of the Vin-man's appearance on McAfee's podcast, but it was all a tease. Instead, Pat will wrestle Austin Theory on the grand stage.

This match is less marquee than McMahon tearing it up, that's undeniable, but Theory deserves a spot on the card(s) more than his 76-year old boss. Also, bringing Austin to SmackDown for a lil' confrontation with McAfee worked a treat. It established Pat as a babyface commentator who wants to slap the p*ss out of Theory.

Bring it on.

Pat has already shown that he can work miracles inside WWE rings (check out his NXT effort vs. Adam Cole) from 2020 if you haven't already), and there's no reason to suggest that Theory won't benefit massively from working a spot like this. It's an all-round winner for both parties.
