Of all the WWE superstars that have seen their careers wrecked by the internet, none are bigger than Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster is probably the most influential wrestler in the history of the company, yet even he couldn't escape the consequences of an online scandal. Earlier this year, a leaked racist tirade sent shockwaves around the wrestling world (drawing considerable mainstream attention in the process). The issue sparked debates over the nature of privacy, and the fact that Hogan's remarks - although appalling - were never deliberately broadcast on social media. They were instead part of a leaked sex tape, something that Hogan was keen to ensure never saw the light of day. Despite this, the shocking nature of his tirade (which featured the n-word multiple times) forced the WWE's hand, and they immediately released Hogan from his role as a company ambassador. All trace of the Hulkster has been removed from WWE.com, excluding the Network's archived PPVs, and he was quickly replaced as a Tough Enough judge to boot. Hogan's firing proves that no superstar is safe from the internet's many pitfalls, regardless of their stature or influential past. The identity of the next figure to lose their job over an online scandal is anybody's guess, but such instances will only occur with greater frequency as social media and the internet's all-encompassing nature continue to grow.
