Steve Austin had a lot of things on his mind when he was unceremoniously dumped by WCW in 1995. Frustrated and looking to get a load off his chest, Austin found himself drawn to Paul Heyman's upstart ECW promotion, and it proved to be the perfect place for him to do some verbal therapy.

Heyman, a true master of bringing real-life qualities out in almost everyone he works with, could see that Steve needed to vent about what had gone down in WCW. He was only too happy to put a camera in front of Austin and see what happened; it was magic from the get-go. Austin, buoyed by anger, spat out promos in a style that'd later earn him millions of dollars.

He was shooting straight, and speaking from the heart.

That's not something Austin had really ever done before. In WCW, both solo and as part of a tag-team with Brian Pillman, he'd either let others speak for him or been more of a smart-assed heel. Heyman's imagination pulled career-best performances from Steve, rebuilt his confidence and sowed seeds for his forthcoming run as 'Stone Cold'.
