CM Punk: 10 Reasons WWE Fans Have Turned On Him

3. Disappointment He Didn't Change His Mind

One explanation of why fans turned on Punk is centred round the March 3rd Raw in Chicago. Some fans forgave Punk his January shoot walkout, but what was unforgivable to some is that he then failed to capitalise on what became fertile ground for a mega angle. The shoot exit was begging to be turned into a work. Everything was perfect, Punk had been gone four weeks and neither party had said a word. The whole world was buzzing about what had gone on, shockingly returning in his hometown would have made him the biggest star in wrestling again. Both Punk and WWE could have made so much money from it, it would have been like 2011's pipe bomb multiplied ten fold. Seemingly, WWE left the door open for this, with Vince McMahon commenting that Punk was only on a "sabbatical" in this period. Punk however obviously wasn't up for it. He didn't return and to many that fans that was enough reason to dislike him. It definitely proved his passion for the business was dead, how could the pro-wrestler within him resist an angle like the Chicago one would have been? His failure to turn his real issues into a worked storyline was the point fans decided he had abandoned them. The disappointment has led to bitterness.
