CM Punk's 10 Best WWE Matches

9. CM Punk vs. John Morrison - ECW Championship 2007

CM Punk has been pretty lucky getting big breaks at the expense of other people's mistakes. Prior to his Money in the Bank match victory, he became a fresh-faced ECW Championship winner by beating John Morrison. CM Punk at the time wasn't labelled as a "WWE-type" of guy. He was skinny and didn't have that look they liked. CM Punk was shafted in favor of Bobby Lashley at the time. Even when Bobby Lashley left the company, John Morrison was chosen to be ECW Champion before him. Much like Jeff Hardy, WWE's wellness policy struck John Morrison and the company needed to crown a new ECW Champion. Thankfully, CM Punk was chosen to be the guy to lead the ECW brand. CM Punk vs. John Morrison had a string of average matches leading up to this one. Somehow the two young stars lacked chemistry with one another and a lack of time hurt their match quality too. This match however was their best one yet. They were given lots of time to shine and both guys gave it their all. More importantly though, it was CM Punk's first title he ever held in WWE. It's too bad these two were relegated to the ECW Championship only. Over on Smackdown, you had The Great Khali and Batista stinking up the buildings with their boring World Heavyweight Title matches. The Smackdown brand in 2007 would have been better if these two were on it instead.
