Ranking Every Kenny Omega AEW Championship Defence From Worst To Best
2. Vs. Adam Page (AEW Full Gear 2021)
Kenny Omega vs. Adam Page was more about the moment than the match itself.
This was the conclusion to a story that had effectively been the ethos on which AEW was built upon. When the higher-ups decreed 'Hangman' Adam Page a must-have for this new upstart promotion, they signed him with the intent on one day, crowning him as their World Champion.
This has been the plan since, at the very least, 1 January 2019. There would be no All Elite Wrestling without an Adam Page cult figure.
Full Gear 2021 was entirely the night of Cowboy Sh*t, but Adam Page didn't have to do anything for you to comprehend the magnitude of the situation. It was in the air.
It helped, then, that his match with Kenny Omega was of epic proportions.
There were no WWEisms to the match, in that emotions didn't have to be conveyed through wacky facial expressions and long, drawn-out, tedious rest hold sequences. There was a consistent pace to the contest, one that was met with an appropriate, almost seismic growth in audience reaction. They knew this was the coronation of Adam Page as AEW World Champion, but they had to wait for the right moment.
When those two Buckshot Lariats finally connected, you couldn't help but cheer. This ambitious mental health story arc had paid off in nearly the greatest way imaginable.
