Ranking WWE's Empty Arena Pay Per Views From Worst To Best
9. Backlash 2020
Never a company afraid of a little hyperbole, WWE booked themselves into a corner by announcing that the rematch between Randy Orton and Edge would be the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever. And while it wasn’t, it was a super showcase between two wily veterans. A triumph of presentation and execution, the headline bout foresaw the Thunderdome with piped in crowd noise that helped lift the match to epic heights. A must-watch.
Elsewhere, McIntyre and Lashley previewed their WrestleMania 37 bout with an effective clash that Drew won easily enough. Asuka and Nia Jax had a decent scrap building before a lame double countout finish.
Then there was the nonsense. Braun Strowman took on Miz and Morrison in a handicap match for the Universal Championship, with about as little peril and excitement as such a stipulation could muster. Street Profits and Viking Raiders also put on a comedy skit too long and tedious to even discuss.
Sheamus and Jeff Hardy also competed in a solid match, but the less said about their 2020 angle the better. There were digs at Jeff Hardy’s real life problems; there was a jar of urine. Let’s move on.
