The Defining WWE Moment Of Every Year This Decade
3. 2017 - The Festival Of Friendship
This entry came down to two huge moments from 2017, one of which was Roman Reigns becoming the second man to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania. However, the defining moment of 2017 and one of WWE's most engaging storylines in recent memory was the Festival of Friendship. The WWE Universe was so invested in the relationship between Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho and the impending split between the two, that the eventual reveal of Owens' resentment for his so-called best friend was one of the most dramatic segments since Marty Jannetty was thrown through the barbershop window by Shawn Michaels.
The story was written and performed to perfection. Jericho's natural ability on the mic is no surprise to anyone that has followed wrestling over the last 20 years, which, when combined with Kevin Owens' acting skills, created a truly heartbreaking moment that gave WWE fans the investment they needed on the road to WrestleMania 33.
A slow-burn heel turn more often than not works well, especially when it is given the attention it requires from creative teams. There was no-one better than Jericho and Owens to perform this storyline at the time and that showed, with fans uniting to support Y2J in his battle for retribution against his former best friend.
