10 Insane Alternate Versions Of The Thing You Won't Believe Exist

1. Four More Things

We've already looked at nine alternate versions of the Thing, so for the final entry, we thought we'd really treat you... with four more Things!

In another issue of Marvel's What If..?, we are treated to four short explorations of four different realities in What If The Fantastic Four All Had The Same Power? One story shows us what would happen if they all had Mister Fantastic's super-elasticity, one explores the concept of four Human Torches, and one presents a team of four people with the multiple abilities of the Invisible Woman. The story that we are the most concerned with, obviously, is the one with the most exciting concept of all: Four. More. Things.

Jim Valentino, the writer and artist, has a lot of fun designing the four Things. Ben Grimm is his usual, blocky self. Reed Richards is a taller, scarier, gorilla-like grey Thing. Johnny Storm morphs into a pathetic, childlike Thing that looks like it's made of lumpy, wet clay, but is actually highly reminiscent of the Thing's original design. In a bizarre but highly effective choice, Sue Storm fully transforms into Man-Thing, a character already established in Marvel lore as a vile creature who lives in the swamp and feeds off fear.

Four Things prove to be too much for the citizens of New York, and the Fantastic Four are exiled to Monster Isle. They live out the rest of their miserable lives forever seperated from their fellow man.

This is why we can't have nice Things.
