1. Green Lantern: Blackest Night

Venom #22 Father's Day
DC Comics

Fulfilling a long-forgotten prophecy, Nekron, an embodiment of Death for the various Lantern Corps arises. With the assistance of Green Lantern villain Black Hand, the Death God released hundreds of Blank Lantern rings from a Central Battery in Sector 666 to resurrect and empower the dead to kill and recruit the living into their ranks.

Many previously deceased friends, family, and foes returned as Black Lanterns to torment and attempt to kill the heroes and villains of Earth.

The reclusive Indigo Tribe informed the other six Corps on the Emotional Spectrum that they needed to work together to defeat the Black Lanterns. John Stewart warns Hal Jordan that every Black Lantern is headed toward Earth, and he summons each of the Corps to Earth to create the White Light of Life to fight Nekron. The Black Lantern Battery was teleported to Coast City by the disgraced Guardian Scar, and an Entity of Light was emerging.

First possessing Sinestro, whose ego was greater than his care about life, and then Hal Jordan, he transformed himself and the Black Lantern heroes into the White Lantern Corps. He returned Black Hand to life, thus cutting Nekron’s tether to this plane of reality. The White Lantern also permanently resurrected 12 formerly dead heroes and villains, including Aquaman and the Hawks. Black Hand is forced into service in the Indigo Corps.
