10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Robin

1. They Aren't Batman's Equal

Batman needs Robin, not because Robin is a brightly colored moving target in the dark back alleys that Batman likes patrolling, but for the same reason Sherlock Holmes needs Watson. In fact, Bill Finger pitched the idea to Bob Kane about needing a Watson-like figure for the World's Greatest Detective and a quipping kid sidekick was born.

The character, however, evolved passed the point of merely going "jiminy jillikers, you're smart Batman!" and the different people behind the domino mask have become a reflection and counterpoint to Batman's mentality.

Dick Grayson may have had to deal with dated dialogue at times, but he was a bright and happy child despite living with a sour puss and, even after leaving the role, he's been the one person that can get through to Bruce.

Jason Todd actually acted in the complete opposite manner, being a snotty brat who egged on Batman's darker persona during the eighties.

Tim Drake was a brilliant boy who came to Batman, rather than Batman finding him, and was critical as a hero when Batman got himself broke by Bane.

True, Stephanie Brown caused a city-wide gang war, but that failing made Batman reconsider his methods and trust issues. Damian Wayne brought the Bat-dad out of Batman, while also making readers finally come to grips with the fact that Robins are still kids.

Batman and Robin are partners. Despite the age gap, Batman has put his life in Robin's hands more times than not, making them much more than just a distraction, and instead an equal member of a famous partnership.
