10 Times Marvel Went Too Far
8. Carnage Massacres Manhattan - Maximum Carnage
Practically from his inception, Carnage's only reason to exist was to - well - cause mayhem and death everywhere he went. Unlike Venom who flip flops back and forth between being a hero and a villain, Carnage is absolutely insane and only wants to kill other people. So it makes sense that he would end up somewhere on a list like this. And wouldn't you know it, it comes from his most famous storyline - Maximum Carnage.
In this storyline, Carnage gathers up a small army of like-minded supervillains, with only one goal in mind: kill as many people as they possibly can and bring down New York into a miasma of chaos. Kind of a simple premise for a 14-part maxi-series, but whatever.
And Carnage being Carnage (aka very powerful and in possession of exactly zero remorse) means that the body count in this event is legit insane, with whoever he doesn't kill himself being made into raving lunatics by the supervillain Shriek, becoming a murderous mob that almost tears the city apart.
Good for raising the stakes, but the fact that the body count is likely in the triple digits by the time Spidey manages to win is pushing the envelope just a bit.
