10 Weirdest Comic Characters You Won't Believe Exist

With many fans loving Superman's canine sidekick Krypto the superdog, and the Silver Age clamouring for comics containing monkeys, a technically logical move was made by DC: the creation of Beppo the Super Monkey.

Beppo also came from the planet Krypton, and was used by Superman's father to test if the baby Man of Steel would be able to survive being blasted in a rocket into outer space. Weirdly, this experiment never involves bringing the poor monkey back, meaning that it's heavily suggested the unfortunate critter was stuck in space for years before also arriving on Earth.

Superman - at this point in time still Superboy - is less delighted to see Beppo than he is Krypto, eventually leaving the monkey in a far-flung part of space so he won't come back to Earth and bother him. Given this monkey basically saved his life, this seems more than a little cruel.
