10 Hidden Meanings Of Famous Movie Scenes

1. Murphy's Cruxifiction - RoboCop

For a movie with such a silly concept, RoboCop is a hell of a lot smarter than it should be. It’s a whip-smart satire with great writing and direction, plus some cool action scenes. It’s also gory as hell, which the ED-209 scene establishes quite clearly.

The movie could be read as a Frankenstein parable, though Verhoeven’s inspiration was a little more divine. In the movie we see police officer Alex Murphy get brutally murdered, only to get revived shortly afterwards. Yes, you got it: Verhoeven has always had a scholarly interest in Jesus Christ, so he intended Murphy to become an “American” Jesus with RoboCop.

This is seen in his brutal “crucifixion” at the hands of the gang, his subsequent resurrection and even the way he appears to walk on water near the end. Of course, Robo is a good deal more violent, but the movie takes on a whole different slant with the Jesus angle in mind.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
