10 Star Wars Factions You Don't Want To Mess With (Who Aren’t The Sith)

The Chiss play a unique role in the Star Wars galaxy. They’ve always been around, but never part of the galaxy’s politics at large. That’s because they inhabit a part of space called the Unknown Region. The Unknown Region is largely - wait for it - unknown.

The Chiss are so remote and so secretive that many citizens thought they were actually a myth. They were in fact a very real civilization. One of the Empire’s most effective Grand Admirals, Thrawn, began in the Chiss military known as the Ascendency.

This was not, however, the first time the Sith had encountered the Chiss. During the days of the original Sith Empire, the Chiss played an unusual role.

The Sith Empire was known to tear across the galaxy, dominating systems. When they encountered a civilization they would demand a surrender. Naturally, systems would refuse, but the Sith would always conquer these planets either killing or enslaving the inhabitants.

When the Sith encountered the Chiss they gave the blue-skinned aliens the same choice- surrender or be conquered. The Chiss did something that surprised even the Sith. They asked to meet and discuss terms.

In a secretive meeting, the details of which were never learned, the Sith and the Chiss ironed out a treaty. The Chiss became the Sith’s first and only allies in the galaxy. The Chiss held dominion over their own space as the Sith agreed never to set foot on the Chiss homeworld.

For the Chiss to extract a lucrative treaty, as well as the respect of the Sith, shows they were not a galactic force you wanted to mess with.
