10 Toho Kaiju Who Need To Appear In The MonsterVerse After Godzilla Vs. Kong
5. Destoroyah
Destoroyah only appeared in a single film, 1995’s Godzilla
vs. Destoroyah, which was the final film of the Heisei era. Destoroyah is a large
crustacean kaiju, a composite of trillions of microscopic organisms, which over
the course of the film mutate between a variety of different forms. Its’
‘Perfect Form’ resembles a large red dragon creature, 120 meters tall, 230
meters long and with a wingspan of 210 meters, weighing in at 80,000 metric
tons.
The origin of Destoroyah goes back to the original Toho Godzilla film in 1954, in which the original Godzilla is killed with a weapon known as the ‘Oxygen Destroyer’. This is the only man-made weapon that has successfully defeated Godzilla on screen in any film, excluding Zilla from TriStar’s 1998 film: Godzilla. The detonation of the Oxygen Destroyer inadvertently causes some prehistoric crustaceans to be revived and to mutate, eventually becoming Destoroyah.
One of Godzilla’s most powerful foes, Destoroyah would be a great kaiju to introduce into the MonsterVerse to up the stakes once again from both King Ghidorah and King Kong. In 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the US government use another device named the Oxygen Destroyer in an attempt to kill Godzilla and King Ghidorah, however both kaiju survive the bomb. This scenario could be the catalyst for Destoroyahs entry into the MonsterVerse, once again an unexpected side effect of the Oxygen Destroyer.
