12. Fox Delays Kingsman: The Secret Service To February 2015
We saw several major release date shifts take place this week, the most curious of which was Fox's decision to push Matthew Vaughn's comic book adaptation Kingsman: The Secret Service from its October 2014 release date to February 13th, 2015. Delays are a common practice in Hollywood, but Kingsman was met with widespread excitement at San Diego Comic-Con, and that February date is already occupied by a little film called Fifty Shades of Grey. That's right, Colin Firth will go head to head with the near-guaranteed box office behemoth at the box office next year. While Kingsman will certainly serve as a nice bit of counter-programming to Fifty Shades, Fox's decision to pit the films against each other is a bit of a head-scratcher. Admittedly, Kingsman's original date was quite packed, with Ouija, Laggies, the Bill Murray comedy St. Vincent, and Paranormal Activity 5 all opening on the same day... so perhaps moving Kingsman was a smart move. It may not win that Valentine's Day weekend in 2015, but perhaps it'll make more money there than it would have in October 2014.
