20 Most Rewatchable Horror Movies Of All Time

9. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

The Shining Jack Nicholson
Bryanston Pictures

Coming just one year after The Exorcist, which is regarded as a cinematic masterpiece for being so unsettling, Tobe Hooper’s horror film had a big act to follow. But despite not being as intelligent or finessed as its predecessor, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is equally as scary for different reasons.

This is perhaps one of the earliest examples of a horror movie where the premise involves a group of teenagers being subjected to a terrorized attack of a crazed monster. Leatherface is one of the most terrifying villains ever – a non-communicative lunatic who attacks people with a chainsaw and uses their remains for household items. He will leave you white as a sheet.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre always feels much longer than its 83-minute-run because the gory violence feels never ending. But that’s why it’s such a classic. It’s disturbing, it’s disgusting and it’s relentless.
