35 Star Trek Actors Who Died In 2022

18. Kirstie Alley

Kirstie Alley was introduced to audiences through her role as Lt. Saavik in The Wrath Of Khan, who then seemed poised to become a recurring character in the franchise. While Saavik would return in the following two films, Alley herself would not, though it was clear she had made her stamp on the series. However, she was clear in her gratitude to director Nicholas Meyer, who kept auditioning her for the role, despite, in her own words, faking the resume that got her in the door.

In the years that followed, her star rose thanks to her appearances in such projects as Cheers, the Look Who's Talking film series, and Veronica's Closet, a sitcom that ran in the '90s.

Her outspoken views and affiliation with certain groups made her a controversial figure later in life. She appeared at her first Star Trek convention in 2016, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the franchise alongside thousands of fans at Star Trek: Las Vegas.

She died at age 71, following a short battle with cancer.
