29. Dark Phoenix

The other X-Men movie that's suddenly found itself gestating in a sort of pre-Disney wasteland is Simon Kinberg's Dark Phoenix, which reimagines the classic Jean Grey story that X-Men: The Last Stand already didn't do justice to.

Most of the principle cast of the mostly unappreciated X-Men: Apocalypse are returning, with the new crowd of younger mutants no doubt pushed to the forefront as Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence move on. We can probably expect lots of intensity and emotion (with some serious stakes), but for now, it's all been let down badly by a half-cooked marketing campaign that's been overshadowed by alleged production issues.

Again, if X-Men isn't added to the title before its release, it will be both a shock and a mistake.
