Avengers: Infinity War - 7 Consequences On Earth Thanos Did Not Consider
2. Politics
We live in hyperpartisan times in which everything is politicized. Whether you're Liberal, Conservative or somewhere in between, the discourse isn't as respectful as we all would prefer.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no exception, as the heroes have dealt with affairs of state as early as 2010's Iron Man 2. The Netflix shows have also dealt with politics in the form of vigilante justice.
The most notable politicizaiton in the MCU came in Captain America: Civil War, with the team divided on government oversight in the form of the Sokovia Accords. The fundamental idea of accountability versus autonomy split the Avengers team down the middle and we have not seen the team at full strength since.
Thanos' success in Infinity War was largely the result of a fractured Avengers squad. After this result, the World will once again have to reckon with what role the World's mightiest heroes should have and what freedoms they should receive. The debate following the Lagos aftermath will be elevated.
Not only this, but lesser-known and more localized characters will face greater obstacles in their lives. In the context of the less heroic, the team has been a complication, to say the least. This is made clear in the Jessica Jones season one episode AKA 99 Friends, in which she is shot by a woman claiming to have lost her mother in the Incident (the Battle in New York), placing blame on all people with abilities.
The team's actions have created mistrust and hatred toward Gifted people and Thanos' balancing act will not alleviate these fears. Gifted individuals that want to live quietly will certainly face increased discrimination and bigotry.
