Psst! Remember the short lived 'Raw Underground' concept that one very sweaty Shane McMahon introduced on the flagship back in 2020? It was arguably doomed to fail from the off, and it didn't take long for WWE as a whole to completely lose interest in their 'Fight Club' rip off. Somehow, almost five years on from that experiment, the idea has made it into 2K's series.

Hands up who didn't see that coming?! There should be a lot of you.

Early trailers for 2K25 showed a WWE ring with no ropes or turnbuckles. Wrestlers could be seen standing around the dimly lit arena like lumberjacks. Screenshots since have shown Sami Zayn and Carmelo Hayes preparing to start one of these unique bouts. It's all pretty mysterious, to be honest, so it'll be interesting to see what 2K has in mind and how this all actually works.

Back in 2020, 'Raw Underground' was a strictly backstage thing. Not in 2K25, it seems. These 'Underground' matches will probably play out like quasi-Lumberjack scraps - wrestlers around ringside should be able to interfere and cause problems for both inside (on top of?) the ring. It's a curious visual, if nothing else, and this match type has come right out of the blue.

Hopefully, 2K has added some bespoke functionality to these things. After all, if it's just a regular match with regular rules and the only difference is you don't have ropes to bounce off it'll...likely fail. On the plus side, the developers are now getting into the groove with adding new ways to experience the game.

That's never a bad thing.
