10 Barcelona Signings Who Completely Flopped At The Nou Camp

Lionel Messi, these guys are not.

Barcelona have been the major success story in European football for the last decade or so.

Led by the sublime brilliance of Lionel Messi, the Catalan giants have helped themselves to four Champions League titles since 2006, while they have dominated domestically, winning four of the last five La Liga titles ahead of arch rivals Real Madrid.

Despite their famous La Masia academy continuing to produce quality young players, Barcelona have splashed the cash in recent seasons.

Big money signings like Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, and Antoine Griezmann have all arrived for mammoth sums as 'Barca' look to continue their dominance.

Of those three players, Coutinho and Dembele have both struggled, with the Brazilian already moving on to Bayern Munich after failing to rediscover his best form at the Nou Camp.

This pattern of big names failing to achieve success in Barcelona isn't a pattern the club should be unfamiliar with, however. Over the years we have seen countless players arrive in Catalunia and simply not live up to expectation, or in more simple terms, flop.

It seems Barcelona can't always get it right in the transfer market, as the names on this list demonstrate.

After impressing for a number of seasons for Arsenal in the Premier League, Barcelona made the move to bring Cameroon star Song to the Nou Camp.

His play as a defensive midfielder and all-action style had impressed onlookers, and despite not being a glamour signing as such, he was seen at the time as someone who could come into the Barcelona team and give their flair players license to roam.

Unfortunately for Song, he failed to settle in the midfield for the Spanish giants, and ultimately never got into the sort of form he showed at Arsenal.

Sergio Busequets had emerged and made the defensive midfield slot his own, while he was never going to have the quality to replace the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

A loan move back to the Premier League with West Ham followed, before a move to Russia, and then eventually a transfer to Swiss side FC Sion pretty much summed up Song's time since leaving the Gunners.
