https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSUyE6p2EpM Alias: S.O.G. Division: Super Middleweight Age: 29 Country: USA Record: 27-0 (14 KOs) Titles: WBA Super Middleweight World Champion The undefeated André "Son of God" Ward, Gold Medalist at the 2004 Olympics, is a technically minded, defensive master who has beaten just about every top name currently competing in the super middleweight division. When the Super Six World Boxing Classic began in 2009, it was all set up for a Mikkel Kessler-Arthur Abraham final, who are both promoted by co-organisers of the tournament, Team Sauerland. But Ward well and truly gate crashed the party. He began the tournament by beating Kessler for his WBA super middleweight championship via a technical decision. Kessler at the time had only previously lost to the legendary Joe Calzaghe. 2010 saw Ward record heavy unanimous decision wins over Allan Green and Sakio Bika, before a defeat of Arthur Abraham in early 2011 in similar fashion. These results gained Ward entry into the Final of the Super Six, where then-WBC champion Carl Froch would await. In December 2012, Ward kept the hard-hitting Froch at bay for the majority of the bout, on his to way to a comfortable unanimous decision victory. This saw Ward crowned the winner of the Super Six World Boxing Classic and become a unified world champion, holding the WBC and WBA simultaneously. Ward returned to the ring 9 months later, this time his challenger was then-WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, who came down a division to challenge 'S.O.G.'. Ward put on perhaps the most exciting displays of his career, dropping Dawson in the third and fourth rounds, before doing so again in the 1oth round, during which the fight was stopped. Ward's pound for pound stock sky rocketed as a consequence of this victory. Injuries meant that Ward was stripped of his WBC title and a 14 month hiatus from the squared-circle. But on his return, he defended his WBA crown with a fairly routine unanimous points win over challenger Edwin Rodriguez. Ward has no scheduled fights at present, but a huge clash with middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin has been touted.
