10 Best Golf Courses In The World

10. St Andrews

Given that it is regarded as the home of golf, we cannot go through this list without including St Andrews.

The venue in Fife possesses seven courses but it is the 'Old Course' that takes centre stage when professional tournaments are held at St Andrews. It is seen as one of the most famous 18 holes in the world, with the sport has been played since the 15th century.

The most unique feature of the course involves the greens, with only four putting surfaces being used for one hole on its own. The other 14 holes use a shared green, with the respective numbers adding up to 18.

St Andrews has hosted a whole host of golf tournaments but it is most famously associated with The Open Championship, which it has staged 29 times. The competition is held at the course every five years, with Zach Johnson winning the latest event by beating Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen in a playoff.
