10 Best Man Utd Performances This Decade

1. Man United 1-0 Barcelona, 2008

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f0lRnnIUI0 It was the last European game Barcelona played before they exploded into that era of Pep Guardiola dominance that culminated in two Champions Leagues. However, make no mistake about it - this was still a classy Barcelona side. It may not have been finalised with the magic touches of Guardiola, but Frank Rijkaard had the likes of Yaya Toure, Xavi, Deco, Andres Iniesta, Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto€™o and an 18 year old winger from Argentina to choose from. They had just won Champions League two years previously themselves. They were a force to be reckoned with. So when Manchester United subdued the Catalans to a goalless in the Camp Nou during the 07/08 Champions League semi-final first leg, it was a remarkable scoreline to bring to Old Trafford, but as always, there was the prolific goalscoring threat they posed. This performance was heroic for a number of reasons. Wayne Rooney had been sidelined due to a knock picked up in the warm-up, and Nemanja Vidic was also ruled out. Wes Brown started the game at centre-back, while Owen Hargreaves began as a right-back, and to their credit, they kept a clean sheet. A wonder goal from Paul Scholes proved to be the difference, as he rifled home a smashing 25 yard half-volley to beat goalkeeper Victor Valdes all ends up. Barcelona had their chances, of course, and were inspired by the effervescent Lionel Messi but the staunch Manchester United defence remained firm and they managed to heroically hold out to set up an all-English Champions League final with Chelsea. So, that's a wrap - have do you agree? Have there been any glaring omissions? As always, feel free to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below.
