10 Best Newcastle United Debuts Ever

9. Cheick Tiote

V Everton (18th September 2010) Back when he signed from Twente for the impressively modest sum of £3.5m, it looked like Newcastle had signed an absolute steal of an enforcer. He was strong, terrifying and composed on the ball, and with more creative players around him, he could and should have gone on to form the foundation of a great team. That much was clear immediately from his debut against Everton following his move in August. He managed an incredible 100% pass completion rate, from 64 passes, made two interceptions and completed all five tackles he attempted. Shockingly (for anyone who has witnessed his shooting since), he also got his only shot on target. So that's three 100% ratings in one match. Did It Last? For the first two years, Tiote was a colossus - albeit with a frustrating knack for getting booked - but as persistent rumours rose that he wanted a big money move elsewhere, his form faded unless playing against the big boys, and his yellow card rate became the only thing close to 100%. He is undoubtedly a talented defensive midfielder, but it says a lot about him that any great performance is met with suggestions that he's "rolling back the years".
