10 Best One-Club Men In Football History

1. Rogerio Ceni

The uncontested one-club king is Rogerio Ceni. The man is even recognised by Guinness World Records as the one-club footballer with the most appearances in the sport, and with an algorithm of maths, common sense and the football equivalent of force times mass, Ceni is at the peak of this list as the best one-club man in football history.

The terms 'goal' and 'goalkeeper' very rarely align (except, you know, in the name 'goalkeeper'), and when they do, it's for fluke occasions like Paul Robinson's 80-yard punt versus Watford. In Ceni's case, the terms came together 131 times, and in a number of cases through some world-class free kicks. The question has to be asked how a prolific free kick-scorer became stuck with the gloves, especially given his goal tally being one you'd presume belongs to a midfielder, but along with his dead-ball skill, Ceni also became known in Brazil for his excellent shot-stopping abilities.

Considered one of Brazil's best ever GKs, Ceni's remarkable career saw 1,257 (not a typing mistake) appearances for Sao Paulo, making him the ultimate one-club player. Before beginning his career with the club he'd spend 23 years at, the 16-time internationally-capped GK was signed with Brazilian state side Sinop in 1990. Given his grand tally of less than a season there and the sheer multitude of games for Sao Paulo (it's a world record for goodness sake!), let's agree to pretend his senior career started with his Sao Paulo trial, for the sake of this list, we've come too far to pick on technicalities...
