Plenty of credit for France's success has to go to Kanté's midfield partner Paul Pogba, with the Manchester United man's vital goal in the final and all-round attacking play helping the French squad get to the biggest game of their lives and win it, but the Chelsea midfielder deserves major plaudits as well for really stepping up during this World Cup.

It's been an incredible few years for Kanté, who has gone from a relative unknown to a world-beater, winning the Premier League with Leicester, repeating the feat with Chelsea, and now adding a World Cup winner's medal to his burgeoning collection.

Kanté was subbed off in the final after having a poor game by his standards, but that one blip shouldn't take anything away from what was a fantastic tournament. It can easily be argued that France wouldn't have made it to that last game in the first place without Kanté's incredible ball-winning skills in the middle of the park. A veritable shield in front of the French defence, Kanté's contribution was monumental and he has to be regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in the game right now.
