10 Best Players SNUBBED For World Cup 2018
1. Mauro Icardi - Argentina
When your national squad includes Lionel Messi, it's always going to be hard to compete for a spot up front. Throw in the likes of Sergio Aguero, Paula Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain, and it becomes almost impossible.
Mauro Icardi is one of Serie A's most consistent performers, scoring over 100 league goals in the five seasons he's spent with Inter Milan and earning the league's top scorer award twice already, including this past season, but even with all those goals, he really can't seem to get a look in at international level. He's only made four appearances for Argentina over the years and hasn't scored a single goal for the national side.
For as long as Messi can play, other Argentinian strikers are always going to be second best, but Icardi is only 25 and could still appear at the next World Cup. To aid his chances, he might be better off seeking a transfer elsewhere, having failed to win a single trophy during his time in Italy, despite being such a talented and prolific forward.
