The Greek defender was a vital cog in Dortmund's backline for half a decade as he showed exceptional leadership qualities and rarely put a wrong foot forward in the 198 appearances he made for the team.

His burgeoning reputation with Werder Bremen espied Borussia Dortmund's eye, who then splashed out for his transfer in 2013 as a replacement for Felipe Santana.

Sokratis went on to refine his talents further, and garnered greater superlatives with each passing year. He was wanted by several Premier League clubs and persistently linked with exit rumors, but he didn't let them distract him from turning in sterling on-field performances.

He even scored 10 times in all competitions and won three trophies, including the DFB-Pokal cup, in those five years before moving on with Arsenal in January 2018. He is currently a key cog in their defense.
