During Spurs' memorable 2010 Champions League campaign, a glorious defeat occurred - if ever defeat could truly be classed as glorious, anyway. Spurs went to the San Siro stadium to face AC Milan in what was the club's biggest match for some time - and it all started off horribly. The Lilywhites were a goal behind after just two minutes, when Javier Zanetti became the oldest ever Champions League goalscorer at 37 and it went from bad to worse very quickly. Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was red carded for fouling Jonathan Biabiany after just eleven minutes and Samuel Eto'o scored the resulting penalty. It was 4-0 before half time and, down to ten men, it seemed as if all hope was lost. And then Gareth Bale happened. A second half hat-trick from the Welshman - in a match were he tore Brazilian international right back Maicon apart - saw Spurs walk away 4-3 losers, but they earned a hell of a lot of respect and no fan of the club went away disappointed. It was a match - and individual performance from Bale - that will be remembered by the entire football world for a very long time.
