The 20 Premier Clubs spent an astronomical £857.7m in the Summer 2014 transfer window and a further £145m in the January 2015 window. That's over £1bn which was spent in order to strengthen and replace outgoing players. The teams all had different reasons for investing. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City were obviously looking to win the Premier League title while Burnley, QPR and the ilk were hoping that their spending would see them maintain their Premier League status. Southampton, meanwhile, were trying to fill the gaps caused by a mass exodus of players. The most expensive signing of the transfer window was Angel Di Maria, from Real Madrid to Manchester United, for £59.7m. Di Maria's was the fifth most expensive transfer in history and the highest fee ever paid by a British club. It's fair to say that he had an underwhelming season. Just because he cost a bomb didn't guarantee instant results. Di Maria's wasn't the only big money signing of the 2014/15 season: Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa, Eliaquim Mangala, Luke Shaw and Romelu Lukaku all carried sizeable price tags when they moved clubs. But how many of them would be considered amongst the best signings of the season?

The former Champions League winner provided some much-needed composure, experience and class and helped Leicester avoid the drop with his routinely excellent performances.
