10 Best Super Bowls Of All Time

1. New York Giants 17 New England Patriots 14 (Super Bowl XLII)

If the Patriots were the underdog in the previous entry in the list, Super Bowl XLII (42) saw them enter as the heavy favourite, in fact they had done one of the rarer things in sport and had a perfect season, 18-0, so few people saw them losing this one. Giants quarterback Eli Manning was looking to take revenge for his brother Peyton who had suffered his fair share of heartbreak at the hands of Brady. This one never really got going till the fourth quarter but the first half saw the teams put up 10 points between them. New York got the scoring started with a field goal in the first quarter, Lawrence Tynes the kicker from 32 yards. New England got the first touchdown of the contest in the second quarter when Laurence Maroney ran into the end zone from just a yard out in the first play of the quarter. The second half is where the drama of the game came from despite the third quarter not even having a single scoring play. Early in the fourth period Manning threw his sides first touchdown of the game as he hit David Tyree with a five yard pass to put the Giants up 10-7. Brady finally responded with 2:42 left in the game when he hit Randy Moss in the end zone to make it 14-10 New England. With not long left in the game Manning orchestrated a great New York drive which contained one of the most memorable plays in Super Bowl history. With just over a minute left and on 3rd and 5, the Giants had to make a play and when three Patriots defenders got hands on Manning it looked like that was it, but somehow the eventual game MVP avoided the sack then threw the ball long to Tyree who somehow caught the ball, then used his helmet to secure it and ensured a new set of downs for the Giants. Eventually, Manning threw for the go ahead touchdown to Plaxico Burress leaving the NFC Champions on the verge of Super Bowl greatness. After their defence saw the game out, one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history was complete.
