After smashing in the goals for Ajax and Heerenveen, Madrid took the plunge and coughed up the big bucks to land the Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar . midway through the 08/09 season.

The big striker was one of the most sought after talents in Europe at the time and it looked like a no-brainer really when Madrid did land him.

Huntelaar did ok too in the games he did play, managing eight goals for Real.

However, the Dutchman only lasted a matter of months in Spain and moved to AC Milan in the next transfer window.

It's hard to put a finger on why it didn't necessarily work out for Huntelaar in Madrid, but the ever changing manner in which the club operates in terms of managers, presidents, and players is probably as good a reason as any.

Huntelaar's gone on to have a fine career as a regular goal scorer for both Schalke 04 and Ajax once again.
