10 Big Talking Points On Luis Suarez's Future

3. Will He Re-Offend?

Hassan Ammar/AP/Press Association ImagesHassan Ammar/AP/Press Association ImagesSuarez's natural talent and determination has been overshadowed somewhat due to his fiery temperament and clear anger issues on the field. He is currently serving a nine match international ban alongside a four month ban from all football activity following his bite on Italian Giorgio Chiellini. There has been a great deal of confusion surrounding this ban, but his initial appeal has just been rejected and it seems clearer that he is not allowed to train with a club or even enter a stadium for four months. This latest incident is his third relating to biting an opponent and also sits alongside him being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra. His first biting incident came in November 2010 when, whilst playing for Ajax, he bit PSV's Bakkal on the shoulder, receiving a seven match ban. The second bite occurred in a game between Liverpool and Chelsea when he bit Ivanovic during a tussle in the box. For this he receives a 10 match ban and the footballing world begin to see that the incident at Ajax was not a one-off. Say the Uruguayan had stayed at Liverpool, during his four month ban he could miss a potential 13 fixtures, including Champions League group stage matches. Even without all Spanish fixtures released, now at Barcelona this will be a similar figure. Adding up his served bans, his current international ban, and the potential fixtures in his four month ban, Luis Suarez could end up missing almost 40 competitive football matches, solely down to biting opponents. Although a mixture of past matches and future conjecture the figures are astounding and it is quite possible that the striker has another biting incident in his future. He clearly has anger issues which he needs to seek help with otherwise there is no evidence to suggest he will not do this sort of thing again on the football field.
