10 Biggest "What If?" Questions In NBA History

4. What If... The Portland Trail Blazers Had Selected Michael Jordan In 1984?

In 1984, the Portland Trail Blazers made possibly the greatest blunder in NBA Draft history when they selected Sam Bowie second overall instead of Michael Jordan. Jordan's talent was clear, but Bowie was a big man and back in the day, good big men were all-important. Plus, the Blazers were plenty confident in their shooting guard of the future, Clyde Drexler. Hoops fans have wondered since that day what potential golden windfall 'His Airness' could have bestowed onto Portland.

The biggest issue Jordan had in his early career, besides a foot injury, was a lack of help. His early Chicago Bulls teams weren't very good and he was basically a one man show. Being on the Trail Blazers would have changed that, as a duo of Clyde Drexler and Michael Jordan would have been phenomenal. Drexler was one of the most versatile players ever and while he certainly wasn't Scottie Pippen on defense, he was good-to-great everywhere on the court. Having Drexler right off the bat would have accelerated Jordan's winning ways, but could have hurt him later on when Drexler fell off. It also could have hurt the Bad Boy Pistons, who defeated Portland in the 1990 Finals.
