10 Biggest Dodged Bullets In Man Utd Transfer History

8. Kevin Strootman

Manchester United have been chasing Roma star Kevin Strootman for years, with the tough-tackling box-to-box midfielder considered the natural successor to legendary former player Roy Keane. So much so, the Netherlands international is known by some as "the Dutch Keane" due to his uncompromising style of play. With United's midfield in such disarray it's little wonder Strootman has been on their radar for so long, and when he left former club PSV last summer, the Red Devils were touted as a potential destination. However, Roma snapped him up instead and that's perhaps a good thing considering he has just endured a torrid debut season in Italy. Strootman made just 25 Serie A appearances in 2013-14 until a knee injury sustained during his side's 1-0 loss to Napoli on 9 March wrecked his campaign earlier this year, with the midfielder having not played a single game since and forced to miss out on this summer's World Cup. Signing Strootman would have landed United with a big-money sick note with reports claiming Roma want as much as £79 million for the crocked star.
