5. Frankie 'The Answer' Edgar vs B.J. 'The Prodigy' Penn, UFC 112
Result: Edgar by unanimous decision (50-45, 48-47, 49-46). Many dismissed Edgar's chances of beating the then Lightweight Champion B.J. Penn as soon as the fight had been announced, arguing that hulking Gray Maynard who had beaten Edgar some 2 years before should be given the title shot. Edgar, who comes out to a Biggie Smalls track to accentuate his humble stature, is small even by Lightweight standards and visually lends himself to the underdog status. B.J. Penn on the other hand had established himself as a legend in the MMA world for his unrivalled grappling skills and granite chin. Edgar overwhelmed the champion with his dazzling boxing garnished with take downs and as the fight wore on the suspect fitness of B.J. Penn became increasingly apparent. Though B.J. Penn's mass of loyal fans question the judge's scoring, there is little doubt that Edgar won the fight and pulled off one of the UFC's greatest upsets, sky-rocketing him to a high position in the P4P rankings.
