10 Biggest Losers From Premier League Opening Weekend
9. Christian Benteke
Signed for £32.5 million from Aston Villa, Christian Benteke has been heralded as the solution to the problems faced by Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. Last campaign, The Reds were woefully lacking in front of goal, and it's been said that the big Belgian striker will help ease those troubles. Against Stoke at the weekend, there was next to no evidence of that. Huffing and puffing through the match, Benteke looked like little boy lost. In fairness to the powerhouse of a forward, Liverpool didn't exactly play to his strengths. The player is imposing in the air, but the Merseyside club only provided a handful of crosses for the big man to try and latch on to. He was also routinely stranded up front on his own, with nobody to play off of. What a debut goal would have done for Benteke's confidence. It's fair to say that he needs to get up and running quickly at Liverpool, otherwise he could prove to be another expensive failure for Rodgers. The manager can ill-afford another misfiring striker, and Benteke's blushes were spared by a tremendous strike from Phillipe Coutinho to end the match 1-0.
