9. Alan Pardew(/Steve Bruce) And Hatem Ben Arfa (2014)

There are few players in the world as talented as Hatem Ben Arfa - but the mercurial Frenchman was simply unable to keep his nose clean at St James' Park, leading to the termination of his contract in January. No-one on Tyneside should have been surprised by Ben Arfa's eventual antics - he purposefully engineered a move from Lyon to Marseille, and then went on strike at the latter in order to facilitate a move to Newcastle - but Alan Pardew, and formerly Chris Hughton, were able to get four seasons out of the playmaker before the inevitable unravelling of relations occurred. It was during the 2013-14 campaign when things really turned sour for Ben Arfa. Despite the Frenchman being a fans' favourite, Pardew had dropped him to the bench due to his severe lack of work-rate - and Ben Arfa responded by sulking in the stands. Ben Arfa then spent the remainder of the season piling on the pounds before he was forced to train with the Under-21 squad during the summer of 2014. Pardew allowed the Frenchman to go on loan to Hull City due to Ben Arfa's lack of "love and passion" for Newcastle - and the player responded by sending an open letter to the fans denying this. Just to make sure that everyone knew Pardew had made the correct decision, Ben Arfa managed just nine matches for Hull before Steve Bruce admitted the transfer had not "worked out" because of the player's "work ethic".
